Below The Poverty Line A Big Success

August 10, 2011, 2:35 am - by Dominik

  • Awak survives his $2 a day three week life.
  • Event raises $3652 from 37 sponsors.
  • Thank you to all for your kind contributions.

On the 11th – 31st of July this year, Awak Mathok, co-founder of World Without Boundaries Foundation lived Below the Poverty Line for three weeks. This meant that he living on just $2.00 each day, stepping into the shoes of the 1.4 billion people, who are forced to live every day on $2.00 to cover food, health expenses, housing, transportation, water and education.

Awak himself was one of these people who were forced to live below the line for over ten years in a refugee camp before coming to Australia as a teenager in 1998.

His $2.00 this time only covered the food expenses. His efforts over that three week period have helped raise awareness and money to break the cycle of poverty through education.

The event managed to raise an impressive $3652 dollars (just shy of the $5,000 target) with 37 sponsors (some who wish to remain anonymous) contributing towards our One Tree School Project.
